    history

The 8th ANNUAL TIGER JILL Conference held December 14th, 15th, and 16th drew hundreds of users from all over the nation to view the newest software for management, food safety, pesticide reporting, recordkeeping, recommendation and billing. The type of attendees varied greatly, from food processors, large and small growers, pest control advisors, to applicators. To name just a few: Gerber Foods, Vie Del, Wawona Frozen Foods, Robert Mondavi Vineyards, Dole Fruit, E & J Gallo Vineyards, Vance Air, Blair Air & Ground Services, Bettencourt Flying and many more. Also in attendance were various government officials, including several county ag commissioners.

Many topics were covered during this three day event. The new Spray History Server being introduced for Gerber Foods was the main topic of the first day. It is designed to allow growers to transmit electronically - pesticide applications records prior to shipments of products to food processors. Due to the Federal Quality Protection Act the need to track such information has become very important to food processors all over the country.

Connectivity was a main topic of discussion all three days. This module provides the capability to have different users import or export data to each other. Ideal in situations where a laptop is used in the field to record applications then data can be e-mailed to the main office to the main data base to print reports, to add billing information, for cost analysis, etc. The connectivity eliminates the need for double entry of application information.

The equipment, measurement, and mapping modules were also introduced through out the three days. The equipment module allows users to track and maintain service records and maintenance on equipment. Users have the capability to produce reports of upcoming service needed as well as tracking costs associated with applications. The measurement module is used to record urban and agricultural measurements associated or not with an application - weather, moisture, leaf, tissue, soil and water measurements. The mapping module is designed with the GIS capabilities in mind. Users can import maps from outside the program or create maps from within the program.

Gordon Sweeny from the Stanislaus County Ag Commissioner’s office was there and discussed the new California Electronic Data Transfer System. With the modem transfer module the TIGER JILL program can dial up and electronically transmit any county’s Use Reports or 7 Day Notice of Intent.

The conference turned out to be a wonderful forum for user’s to come together and express ways they would like to see Tiger Jill address their needs. The feedback regarding the program was tremendous and Orange Enterprises, Inc. hopes to incorporate as much as possible the concepts and needs brought up by the attendees.
