A wireless program allows growers to stay on top of all farming activities. THE Pocket Jill from Orange Enterprises is a new program that runs on PDA cell phones. The data is entered in the field and then synchronized to the office via the Tiger Jill or Web Jill programs. The data can include pesticide applications; soil, crop, or cultural activity; GPS; trap counts; harvest information; labor; equipment; and irrigation. Pocket Jill retrieves data from remote locations with GPS and bar-code technology. Using wireless connections, Pocket Jill can send and receive data via e-mail or IP addresses. Keeping In Touch The Pocket Jill program is run on the Windows for PC operating system, a scaled-down version of the Microsoft Windows operating system that powers most full-sized PCs. Having Pocket Jill on a PDA cell phone allows growers to keep in touch with all activities taking place on the farm. Using Pocket Jill to organize fieldwork gives growers control over when and how often they need to update data. Growers don't need to rely on taking notes anymore and they can accelerate business cycles. While the grower is in the field, sending and receiving work orders or recommendations is only a tap away.
